Digital Media Services is seeking Stein Studio Operators to monitor and support MAGIC (Media, Art, Graphics, Innovation, & Creativity) program appointments in Stein Studio, located in Stein 104. These appointments are intended for academic coursework, research, scholarship, and community-based projects.
Appointments last 30 minutes and occur during peak project periods: (FALL: 10/20/25 to 12/5/25 | SPRING: 3/9/26 to 5/8/26). Peak periods represent the busiest times for digital storytelling projects during the semester, typically aligned with major coursework deadlines.
Stein Studio Operators will be trained on studio and control room equipment, including an audio mixer, video switcher, lighting control system, teleprompter, cameras, microphones, monitors, and related production tools. Students will also be introduced to basic production concepts that are foundational for this role. Training will take place prior to the start of assigned shifts and will be scheduled individually in consultation with DMS staff.
This is a hands-on opportunity to gain experience with studio equipment, digital storytelling, and production best practices.
Reliability and punctuality are critical to this role.
Responsibilities:
Monitor and operate Stein Studio for MAGIC appointments during peak periods (FALL: 10/20/25 to 12/5/25 | SPRING: 3/9/26 to 5/8/26).
The position(s) will cover the following shifts:
Sundays: 2:00pm to 6:00pm (4 hours)
Mondays : 3:00pm to 7:00pm (4 hours)
Thursdays: 3:00pm to 7:00pm (4 hours)
Check in students upon arrival and ensure they have completed the required Stein Studio Agreement Form.
Ensure that studio use complies with safety and usage guidelines.
Keep the studio space secure and locked when not in use.
Support the documentation and storage of recordings.
Notify DMS professional staff about any video recordings made during appointments.
Upload recorded footage to the external hard drive connected to the Control Room iMac.
Send DMS staff a brief end-of-shift summary email noting any relevant studio activity.
Qualifications:
Required
Responsible and punctual
Genuine interest in video production and digital media
Preferred
Familiarity with basic composition and framing
Experience using DSLR cameras, microphones, or lighting equipment
Previous experience with Adobe Creative Cloud applications such as Premiere Pro, Audition, Photoshop, etc.
Other digital media experience (e.g., editing, content creation, photography)
Customer service or peer support experience
