Digital Media Services is seeking IMAGINE Lab Generalists to support the day-to-day operations of the new IMAGINE Lab, located in Stein 134. The lab provides students with resources for podcasting, media production, virtual reality, collaboration, and equipment borrowing.
The IMAGINE Lab includes:
The Story Booth, a 4-person video podcasting studio
A media editing workstation with an attached VR headset
Brainstorming and collaboration space
A digital review and critique area
Digital Peer Consultation Appointments will happen here
An equipment lending station
Equipment Loan Check In/Out Hours
Mondays and Wednesdays: 10:00am to 12:00pm and 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Fridays: 10:00am to 12:00pm
This position is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience with digital media tools, support fellow students, and explore creative project workflows in an academic lab environment.
Training will be provided in early September, and students will be scheduled for regular shifts during the academic year based on availability.
Reliability and punctuality are critical in this role.
Responsibilities:
IMAGINE Lab hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
We are looking to fill the following shifts among multiple students:
Mondays and Wednesdays:
10:00am to 1:00pm (3 hours)
2:00pm to 5:00pm (3 hours)
Tuesdays:
1:00pm to 5:00pm (4 hours)
Thursdays:
10:00am to 1:00pm (3 hours)
1:00pm to 5:00pm (4 hours)
Greet and check in students for Story Booth appointments:
Confirm students have completed the Story Booth Studio Agreement Form
Ensure appointments start and end on time
Set up and monitor use of podcasting and lab equipment:
Start/stop recordings & assist with file transfers
Upload final files to designated drive or location
Clean and reset the podcasting space after each use
Monitor and assist with check-out/check-in of borrowed equipment:
Confirm packing list and condition during equipment check-out
Review returned equipment and report any issues to DMS staff
Provide basic support for the media editing workstation:
Assist with simple troubleshooting or direct students to staff as needed
Maintain lab cleanliness and order:
Wipe down devices and surfaces
Return furniture to standard layout
Send a short end-of-shift summary email to DMS staff noting activities or issues
Occasionally assist with creating DMS content (e.g., Worcester Voices video podcast)
Qualifications:
Required
Responsible and punctual
Genuine interest in video production and digital media
Preferred
Experience or interest in podcasting, media production, or equipment management
Familiarity with or experience using Adobe Creative Cloud tools (e.g., Premiere Pro, Audition, Photoshop)
Peer support, customer service, or teamwork experience
